B&Q installation flooded the house but no one is paying up
We paid 13,381 for just a fully fitted kitchen from B&Q. 10 days to the installation the subcontractor accidentally caused a flood, damaging carpets, furniture and possessions.
B&Q managers advised which we make a claim. We therefore sent some text with supporting documents requesting 2,592.41. In excess of three months later we’re still waiting.
B&Q insists which the subcontractor’s insurer should pay. The insurer claims that B&Q should provide the funds then reclaim it there.
Now both advise us that the quickest choices are to say on home insurance, even so i would lose our 10 years’ no claims.
While the fitter’s insurance broker and B&Q’s point the finger at one another, we are the ones up front inside them for hours to carry out the chasing. ML, Coleshill, Warwickshire
A sorry tale of corporate indifference. In cases like this B&Q, with which team you had the contract, needs to have settled the debt then claimed against its subcontractor’s insurer. However when doubtful, pass the buck.
After The Observer wades in, B&Q decides to pay C as well as it pretty pleased about its magnanimity.
“We have supported them in their claim and possess been encouraging a swift resolution,” a spokesperson says. “We are settling their claim ourselves, and can pursue recovery resistant to the installer’s insurers.”
